Ep. 39 – A Very Special Fifty Shades Episode

It took a couple of weeks, but here it is. We invited Brendan’s inarguable better half Faith and our psychotic voodoo dolly Yuko to help us record our live commentary for Fifty Shades of Grey. Basically we hit play and just talked throughout the movie. All of us agreed that it is a very very very very very very bad movie and a very very very very very very bad decision to do this. But here it is.

This episode clocked in at just over two hours, so we didn’t add any music. I hope you enjoy. And if you do, you are truly sick.

Ep. 38 – The Movie Clip Show

Since Sunday is the Oscars and Brendan is out in Joshua Tree tripping the hell out, here is a clip show for you. Part of it is that the last several weeks we recorded these long long long podcasts that I (Jimmy) had to edit the fuck out. So we had a wealth of material unheard, so here it is. We talk about:

– Movies we actually liked from 2014 and looking back to the movies of 2010.
– The shitty Imitation Game Oscar campaign which led to us talking about Cecil B. Demented and the genius of John Waters.
– The stupid plastic American Sniper baby which seamlessly transitioned to a Lar Von Trier discussion.
– Jimmy watched Law & Order: SVU and Murder, She Wrote.
– Katy Perry and Femme 2 Femme.

The podcast opened with Unwound’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” and closed with Madonna’s “Crazy for You.”

Ep. 37 – We’re Sorry

This past week, we teased that this episode would be our live commentary as we watched 50 Shades of Grey. This episode is not. We couldn’t hunt down a screener — we don’t think they even issued screeners — so we couldn’t do this. For one of the very few times, we apologize. But that didn’t stop us from talking about it.

– Jimmy reads the first paragraph, and it’s pretty bad. We absolutely trash and kill the book.
– We talk about the 2002 film Secretary and how it was a much better depiction of a BDSM relationship.
– St. Valentine doesn’t exist!
– Kanye West and the Grammys. Who cares about the fucking Grammys? But Jimmy loves loves loves loves other awards shows.
– Brendan tries to find the title of the Aphex Twin song we ended with. This podcast was originally 90 minutes long, but Jimmy edited it down to this. That’s why we sound absolutely fatigued and loonier than normal at the very end.

The podcast opened up with Depeche Mode’s “Master and Servant” and ended with Aphex Twin’s “(HAB un23)(unfinished)”.

We will do a live commentary of 50 Shades of Grey once we get our grubby hands on a copy. But again, we apologize.

Ep. 36 – Brendan Thinks He’s Right About Everything Like Every Other Heterosexual Man

It’s been a couple of weeks, and we talked a lot. And by “we”, it should be understood that it was Brendan who blahed and blahed and blahed. The podcast was edited down from three hours to something a bit more manageable.

The podcast opens with Switchblade Symphony’s “Clown” and Einsturzende Neubauten’s “The Willy-Nicky Telegrams” from their excellent new album Lament.

John Wick and reassessing Keanu Reeves as an actor which quickly morphed into wondering if the Wachowskis are actually good filmmakers.
– Jimmy agreed with Brendan. Birdman is a fucking awful movie.
– Brendan blabs about more movies.

Ep. 35 – Celebrity Sightings!

Still no fucking fatwas. Oh well. Somehow this became our celebrity episode. In this episode:

– We talk a lot of shit about Matthew Barney.
– We talk a lot of goodness about Bjork.
– Brendan had a celebrity sighting while watching Blackhat.
– We got off on an Angelina Jolie digression. And somehow we get on the batshit crazy Willow and Jaden Smith NY Times interview.
– Jimmy talks about his Salma Hayek run-ins while misusing cliches.
– And Angelina Jolie at Ralph’s, Ron Perlman at Mayfair, Glenn Danzig cleaning up his motherfucking bricks.
– Jimmy couldn’t remember the name of Bjork’s new album Vulnicura.

Sleater-Kinney’s “Fangless” opened up this podcast, and Bjork’s “Stonemilker” ended it.

Ep. 34 – Disappointment

Jimmy begged for a fatwa last week, and much to his disappointment none was issued. But we move on, step by step. In this episode we talk about:

– Jimmy talked about gay jokes.
– Brendan talks about Richard Pryor talking shit at a gay right fundraiser back in the 70s and 80s.
– Brendan jerks off talking about his love of Hudson Hawk.
– Jimmy is sort of rooting for the Supreme Court to ban gay marriage.
– We ramble on about The Runaways, David Foster Wallace, Selma.
– Jimmy talks about killing himself. Yet again.
– Brendan enjoyed this podcast.

Babes In Toyland’s cover of “All By Myself” opened up this episode, and Psychic TV’s “I.C. Water” ended things.

Ep. 33 – Can We Get a Fatwa?

Happy new years motherfuckers! Of course we were going to talk about the Charlie Hedbo killings, but we are both pissed at some of the pussies who have decided to chime in their two cents into this. We talk about:

– Jimmy is a little sick and sounds like he has a penis lodged in his throat. Brendan makes fun of him.
– Fuck you. Islam is a religion, and all religions are fucking stupid. And they all deserve to be mocked.
– Allah and Mohammad can suck Jimmy’s asshole.
– Brendan tries to bring some class into this podcast. Jimmy, as always, tries to take it all the way to the gutter.
– If this podcast doesn’t get a fatwa issued on our heads, Jimmy will be very disappointed.
– All jihadis are ugly according to Jimmy.
– Fundamentalist anythings are all assholes.
– Oh, and some white honky asshole bombed a NAACP building in Colorado.
– Moral of the podcast: just chill out, bro.

The podcast opens with Ween’s “Piss Up a Rope” and ends with Karen Finley’s “Tales of Taboo (Radio Mix)”.

Ep. 32 – Have a Very Emo New Year!

Somehow, someway we made it through Christmas. Brendan and Jimmy came through it afflicted with an existential crisis. And for two extremely depressed blokes, they sure did laugh a lot in this podcast.

We start the podcast off with Unwound’s “Summer Freeze” and end with PJ Harvey’s cover of Peggy Lee’s “Is That All There Is?” In between we talked about:

– The hard freeze (not really) in Los Angeles.
– Brendan is depressed and struck with malaise.
– Jimmy realizes he’s right to be cynical about family gatherings for Christmas.
– Koreans and religion!
– Brendan watched The Interview!
– Cheesy 90s goth acts!
– Jimmy masturbated to Black Tape for a Blue Girl in college!
– The economics of Video on Demand!
– Brendan yells at me for liking the Laemmle Sunset 5 Theaters!
– Jimmy ponders why teenybopper singers and groups like Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and One Direction are still popular despite the music industry imploding.
– Jared Leto’s penis!
– More fisting porn talk!!!
– Does the bottom take the top’s last name when they gay marry?
– Jimmy promises to livecam his suicide!
– We list our favorite 2014 albums!

Ep. 31 – We’re Back!

We’re back from our little hibernation! The days are getting shorter and colder, so warm your sexy bodies up next to ours! In this episode we talk about:

– Right off the bat, Jimmy cusses out Brendan.
– Jimmy talks about the sudden loss of all of his books.
– Brendan quickly brushes past his camping stories to talk about movies.
– The evil American empire trying to blame the Sony hack on Jimmy’s North Korea’s brothers.
– We unveil our list of things we hope North Korea will help us get rid of.
– What’s the last good Ridley Scott movie? Thelma & Louise?
– Jimmy invokes Satan after finding out Ridley Scott is going to do Blade Runner 2.
– Some Black Mirror love.
– Baseball HOT STOVE TALK!!! aka Making fun of the San Diego Padres.

Ruby’s “Flippin Tha Bird (Ceasefire Mix)” is our introduction song, and we play D’Angelo’s “The Charade” to end the whole damn thing.

Ep. 30 – A Very Special Episode of the B&J Podcast

Tune to this week’s very special episode as the lads delve into race and protesting and how people’s reaction to both drive them both up the fucking wall.

– Someone needs to fix Brendan’s plumbing.
– The lads have a role reversal: Brendan is angry and Jimmy is mellow. Sort of.
– Brendan talks about why he hated Interstellar.
– Ferguson. We talked about it.
– Jimmy watched Planes, Trains and Automobiles instead of watching Ferguson burn.
– Brendan talks about Richard Sherman’s presser.
– Jimmy very nearly makes the most tasteless unfunny joke he has ever made.
– How badly the NFL fucked up the Ray Rice discipline.
– Brendan ends the episode with his Springer-esque Final Thought.

The music featured in this episode is Annie’s cover of Stacy Q’s “Two of Hearts” and Haujobb’s Seasons Change: Springtime remix of :wumpscut:’s “Die In Winter” as found on The Remix Wars: Strike 1 released by the now-defunct 21st Circuitry Records.
